Friends:
This edition of our e-newsletter highlights the high level of activity in the Park this summer. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with many community members to discuss the Park’s evolution, today and for the future.

Parc Downsview Park Inc. has started the next phase of its progress by seeking partners for one of the Park’s neighbourhoods. Our goal is to find companies which demonstrate environmentally innovative practices and technologies.

Through our programming and special events, we are thrilled to highlight the wonders of our country by playing host to even more cultural celebrations at the Park this year from Jamaica Day to Festival de Verona and many more. The Park makes our mosaic brilliance shine, in fact Downsview Park, together with Citizenship and Immigration Canada, further celebrated Canada’s cultural brilliance at Downsview Park’s annual Canada Day celebration. I was proud to witness 142 participants become ‘new’ Canadians and renewing my own commitment to our great country.

New look
Phase 3 of the construction of a comprehensive stormwater management system that includes filtration beds, bioswales and a lake is currently underway in the Park. Elements associated with the stormwater management system include a pedestrian bridge to allow the current circuit path to continue unbroken over the bioswale and extend beyond its current limits and a magnificent public lookout point at the edge of the Lake. Work on another significant Park feature, the construction of the Mound, will kick into high gear this fall using the excavated material from the Lake, demonstrating true sustainability.

Summer is in full swing at Downsview Park! Visit our 2009 calendar at www.downsviewpark.ca for a full listing of this year’s public events.
