Downsview Park is pleased to partner with Change for the Environment a fundraising program that raises money for environmental community projects. A portion of the funds raised through this year’s program will be used to purchase trees for planting as part of Downsview Park’s Canada Forest. Community members are invited to come out to help plant the trees from 12 pm to 2 pm on April 26 at Downsview Park’s Annual Earth Day festival.

From April 2 to 5, 2009, Change for the Environment is asking every household to take the loose change they have lying around their home, car or office, place it in a bag and drop that loose change off at any one of a number of convenient collection locations in the community. A portion of the funds will be given to Toronto and Region Conservation to contribute to the free tree-planting initiatives being held at Downsview Park. Check the Downsview Park website in the next few weeks for more information about Change for the Environment drop-off locations in your area.

TTC riders be proud and rejoice! Downsview Park is thrilled that the TTC has decided to make the 101 Parc Downsview Park bus route from Downsview Station a year-round service into the Park. The route runs along Sheppard Avenue West, turns onto John Drury Drive at the Park gate, runs along Carl Hall Road and loops around the Downsview Park Sports Centre. Buses run on a 20-minute schedule on weekdays and weekends. For full schedule details, click here.

Planning for a new subway station along Sheppard Ave. W. in Downsview Park, is underway as part of the TTC’s extension of the Spadina subway from Downsview to York University. PDP is continuing to participate in the planning process, to ensure access and station design can be the best it can be.

TTC has begun geo-technical investigations that are part of the initial planning and design stage. Drilling activities will continue to  take place in the far north end of the park, generally, on vacant lands in preparation for subway building. For more information please visit www.ttc.ca

Look for further details on the new TTC subway planning process in upcoming issues.
