New Illustrations of Park Features

Downsview Park is evolving. We are pleased to share with the public new illustrations of the vision for the Park as various park features and neighbourhoods begin to take shape.

The first neighbourhood of focus is the Stanley Greene Neighbourhood in the southern end of Downsview Park.

Downsview Park Gateways Project

Part of the Park Plan includes “Gateways” at key entrances to the Park, with architectural features that will welcome visitors. Gateways are proposed for Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue, Keele Street and Diana Drive, and Keele Street and Whitburn Crescent. A request for proposals was issued in September for this project and it has now progressed to the design phase with the design company Janet Rosenberg & Associates, with construction commencing summer 2010.

Football Field Construction Underway

A fourth outdoor field is under construction at the Downsview Park Sports Centre to complement the three fields built last year. The new field will be artificial turf and will primarily accommodate football and soccer. A 400-metre running track will be added in a future phase.

Ongoing Construction

Portions of the construction fencing along Keele Street have been removed to make way for work associated with the Lake and the future lookout point, which will run along the western edge of the Lake. The construction fencing has been replaced with a chain-link fence to maintain safety and security while offering a great view into the site.

Over the past several months significant changes have taken place to the landscape of Downsview Park as the construction of The Lake proceeds. Earth removal from the area has been placed in a series of mounds creating a dramatic new topography. These earth works will result in "The Mound," a 20-metre-high hill that will afford a terrific panoramic view in the very near future.
